Rainbow Tie Dye Cupcakes

These cupcakes are the most fun! Once I saw them, I just knew I had to make them as soon as possible. And now I’m so excited to share on the blog as they make your ordinary vanilla or yellow cake recipe just pop with color. You can use any recipe, but might I suggest Vanilla Cupcakes and Easy Vanilla Buttercream Frosting from Annie’s Eats?

First, divide the cupcake batter evenly into four bowls. Put a few drops of food coloring into each bowl (one red, one blue, one green, and one yellow) and mix well. Be careful to only mix in the food coloring so the color is evenly distributed – over mixing the batter may cause the cupcakes to be too dense.

One color a time, drop batter by the spoonful into cupcake liners until 3/4 full. Use a toothpick and swirl the colors slightly for the tie-dye affect. Bake cupcakes according to recipe directions (until toothpick comes out clear).

After cupcakes have cooled, top with frosting (I used Wilton’s Star tip 22) and colorful sprinkles. And ta-da! There you have it, rainbow tie dye cupcakes.

For a fun way to present the cupcakes, I used a beverage tray holder and covered it with bright tissue paper. The cardboard tray is suddenly transformed into a gorgeous cupcake holder!
